Obsessed with hats

I have been buying a few different hat books and they are so inspiring. I am now able to make hats without following a pattern. These ones are made from super chunky yarn and have made wonderful presents. I have also been commissioned for a few this Christmas. The flowers really make them special.

I have made several pairs of booties now and here is a pink pair made with 2 strands giving a thicker warmer bootie for winter.

Colour changing hat

I made this hat for my neighbour Lucy and she asked for a yellow one so I decided to mix the colours and made it cream, green and yellow with a pretty crocheted ribbon in yellow. It suits her and I've seen her wearing it a lot.

Cotton hats

My daughter is modelling the hat I made for her cousin in Scotland. The butterfly pattern was in my flower book and turned out beautifully!

I made this pretty scarf as a leaving pressie for wonderful Hilary, Isabella's nursery teacher at the Furzedown Family Centre. She wore it to our first crochet group!

Hats Galore!

This is a selection of the first few hats I've made as pressies for family or for my girls. I've used mainly cotton and also a cotton and acrylic mix which is really soft (purple one at the front). I cou;ld get into this!!

Baby Blankets

Using a larger crochet hook and this gorgeous fluffy part mohair yarn gives such a lovely finish for keeping a new baby cosy. They aren't hard to make and only a few hours. I did the clover leaf for a boy and the apple blossoms for a girl.

Crochet Flowers

My sister in law found an amazing flower book for me and I can't get enough of making these, they are sooooo cute and quick to make. Then Hilary (Isabella's nursery teacher and fellow crochet fan) and I got asked along to Furzedown knitters group to make some for the Festival and they were strung up from trees in Moyser Road and at the Fun day stall. Hoorah! They looked amazing. Learning to make flowers means I can put them on everything!

Custom Cushions

A good friend had a lovely new house extension built and mentioned that she needed some cushions to go with her fabulous new curtains...so I took photos of the curtains and made some lovely leaves and flower embellishments to adorn cushions in the right colour. She was delighted and I was quite pleased with how they turned out.
My oldest daughter asked me to make her a cardigan and this is my first attempt which she loves and even helped me pick out the buttons from my grandmothers button jar-a treasure my mum gave to me. The cardigan is actually quite simple as the pieces are all straight rectangles made in cotton. The worst bit was sewing in all the ends from changing colours so often!

Little Hat!

I need a hat too mum! I couldn't find too many small hats that were warm enough and fitted properly so made one myself. Of course she grew out of it within a few weeks so the dolls now have it! I followed an online tutorial to learn how to make this one.
Then there are hats! Wow this is the first one I made, in 2 colours of cotton and some flowers on -gorgeous and Isabella loves it! Quite tricky at first following the pattern but soon got to grips with it and able to follow the written and pictorial pattern.

Brand new!

First day in a cot and not in a glass box so finally allowed to have the famous blanket! Tears shed!
Then 10 days later going home from Special Care Unit all snuggled up, definitely more tears!

My First Crochet project

My first crochet project completed the day before I had my second daughter. I decided to take up crochet as a bit of occupational therapy as I knew I was going to be in hospital for at least 6 weeks before she was born. It's the best thing I could have done as it really kept me entertained and busy and look at the wonderful result!
This is on my bed in the labour ward! My fab sister in law sewed them all together so that Sophia could have it on her as soon as she came out of the incubator.
